Research Areas
The department primarily investigates the issues arising from the usage and development of database management systems (DBMS). Apart from traditional relational DBMS (RDBMS), we are also concerned with object-oriented and XML database management systems (OODBMS and XBMS).
Areas of interest
- Logical and physical database design
- Deployment of DBMS in the following areas:
- Administrative applications
- Engineering applications (mechanical engineering)
- Scientific applications
- Genetic Research
- Biochemistry
- CNMR-Spectroscopy
- Data Warehousing/Decision Support Systems (OLAP)
- Data Mining in the World Wide Web (querying the Web)
- Performance analysis of DBMS
- Development of
- query languages and optimizers
- index structures
- super-scalable Data Warehouse Management Systems
- Embedded DBMS
- XML-Repositories
- Web Services and declarative message processing
Our focus is always on performance improvements.
